Brief Gaudy Hour by Margaret Campbell Barnes

This is only the second book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the first one more I think because I liked the heroine more. The other book was about Anne of Cleeves, 4th wife of Henry VIII and my favorite. This book was about Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's 2nd wife, the one he broke with the Catholic Church for. Ms. Barnes leans toward treating Anne as a victim of Henry's insatiable lust for women and power. Anne is a charismatic flirt who catches Henry's eye and who's powerful uncle throws her to the wolf. She thinks she is smarter than her older sister Mary by insisting she won't be his mistress only his wife. She might have been better off in the long run if she'd just been his mistress. It takes Henry 6 long years to "legally" break with his wife Katherine and marry Anne. And only 2 years before he tires of her and has her decapitated for treason. I have read other books about this story and this wasn't my favorite.
